Our Must-Visit Shops For Affordable Lighting
When it comes to some aspects of decorating your home, there will always be parts that get left to the last minute. Lighting is usually one of those things. But it shouldn’t be. The right lighting placement or actual light design can make such an impact on a room, but when the budget gets stretched lighting gets sacrificed. So today I wanted to share some of my favourite places to look when we’re searching for affordable lighting that looks anything but cheap lighting.
NEXT
On the high street, Next is known for its great lighting options. In terms of design, it’s fair to say there’s a luxe feel running throughout, from glamorous chandeliers to statement floor lamps – think mirrored surfaces, glass and crystal detail.
Prices range from £2.50 for spare shades right through to £399 for an oversized pendant lamp. www.next.co.uk
OLIVER BONAS
If you’re looking for something a little more quirky, then Oliver Bonas is the place to shop.
A British independent retailer that started life if Clapham, London, Oliver Bonas has since grown into a multi-chain with stores all over the country.
If you’re a new customer to Oliver Bonas expect cool desk lamps in concrete and velvet, neon signs to sit in your office or on a bar trolley, and fringed floor lamps straight out of the 70s. www.oliverbonas.com.
MATALAN
A hidden gem to many, so if you’re a new customer to Matalan know that it has some of the best affordable lighting on the high street, focusing on trend-led pieces for an inexpensive outlay.
The new season welcomes the trend “Miami Heat” which comprises brass chandeliers with pink tassel detail, plush velvets and the most stunning gold palm leaf floor lamp which would look amazing in a bohemian-inspired home. www.matalan.co.uk
BHS
Back from the dead, BHS has been resurrected from administration and is back to doing what it does best – selling affordable and beautiful lighting.
Before it closed its doors a few years back, BHS was known for its great lighting options and those in the industry could never understand why they didn’t capitalise on their strength.
Well, they have now and they’re back with an amazing collection of statement ceiling, floor and table lights, from brass mid-century modern to glitz and glamour. www.bhs.co.uk
MADE.COM
Made.com has become a gem within the interiors world for affordable, trend-led pieces of furniture and home décor. If you’re on the lookout for cheap lighting that looks luxurious, then be sure to head here.
Its lighting offer has become a standout category on its own, especially its signature curved floor lamp.
If, however, you’re in the market for a modern mid-century inspired ceiling pendant, Made.com is absolutely the place to visit – this 70s inspired brass and smoked glass design is a favourite. www.made.com
GEORGE AT ASDA
Although focusing more on smaller, desk and bedside table lamps, George at Asda is a great place to pick up inexpensive light options, especially if you’re looking for a quick weekend makeover.
Not only can you pick up fantastic, affordable lights, you’re also on hand to buy bedding, decorative accessories and, of course, some chocolate for decorating energy. www.direct.asda.com/george/home
